Growing Your Own Fruit and Vegetables

We grow our own fruit and vegetables for our meals for as much of the year as we can. Without a greenhouse we have to buy shop food in the winter months but in the spring, summer and autumn we often have enough to share with family and friends.

Read about growing your fruit and vegetables here on my growing your own food pages.

Weather is not warm enough for my seed potatoes...

I am thinking of moving some of my seed potatoes that have been put to chit. They are very slow this year, due to the cooler temperatures especially at night. I am thinking of moving the first earlies into a unheated area in the house.

Planting seed potatoes out (the first earlies) will be later for me because of the lower temperatures and lower soil temperatures at the present time.  If I plant them I risk a frost and the other factors are they have not chitted yet and once in the ground they only start to develop once the soil has reached a certain temperature. For me planting them at the present time is not worth the risk.

I see from my note book/journal of last year I was planting some first early seed potatoes on the 14th of March. That will not be happening this spring.
