in the supermarkets this summer as they have a sweeter flavour than most years because of the weather conditions earlier this summer. Customers are buying them to eat fresh rather than cooking with them because of the increased sweetness.
I noticed the ones that I had grown on the allotment this year were very nice fresh or made into fruit compote. I have two blackcurrant bushes, and one redcurrant bush. I think that I will be planting more this autumn season... even if the blackcurrants are not as sweet next summer they blend well with other fruits in compotes and sauces.
There is information about making fruit compote on the recipe page here or I have an article on HubPages about which has the full instructions for making fruit compote from berries, blackcurrants and other fruits.

Growing Your Own Fruit and Vegetables
We grow our own fruit and vegetables for our meals for as much of the year as we can. Without a greenhouse we have to buy shop food in the winter months but in the spring, summer and autumn we often have enough to share with family and friends.
Read about growing your fruit and vegetables here on my growing your own food pages.
