We were lucky to be given a box of pears and had been enjoying them when we noticed they were becoming over ripe and realised we could not eat them quickly enough. I hate to waste anything so while they were still edible I made a batch of fruit compote from them and to give it more flavour and make it more interesting I added a couple of apples and some of the plums that I had frozen down. Freezing plums was an experiment, but I am happy to say the compote worked out well and was tasty.
I have a recipe for fruit compote on my Hubpages here is the link to it ....Fruit Compote Recipe.

Growing Your Own Fruit and Vegetables
We grow our own fruit and vegetables for our meals for as much of the year as we can. Without a greenhouse we have to buy shop food in the winter months but in the spring, summer and autumn we often have enough to share with family and friends.
Read about growing your fruit and vegetables here on my growing your own food pages.
