Growing Your Own Fruit and Vegetables

We grow our own fruit and vegetables for our meals for as much of the year as we can. Without a greenhouse we have to buy shop food in the winter months but in the spring, summer and autumn we often have enough to share with family and friends.

Read about growing your fruit and vegetables here on my growing your own food pages.

Checking seed packets for sowing dates

Sometimes with all the preparations going on for chitting and planting potatoes it is easy to forget to check the sowing dates for seeds. Of course it is too early here to be planting most seeds outside, but there are seeds that will benefit from being started off (at the right time) on a window-sill or in a greenhouse or propagator.

More on this later with ideas for what I shall be planting.

If you need seed potatoes they are still on sale and you may find some of them are a reduced prices soon, however if you are buying them still make sure you are buying from a reliable source. My seed potatoes are Scotch seed potatoes. I have bought cut-price ones in 'bargin shops' the past and been disappointed with the yields, but you should be OK with a reliable source that has reduced prices to make shelf space.
