Because of the weather the Potatoes are making up their own rules this year.

Not one potato plant on my vegetable plot managed to produce a flower this year. There are still potatoes there in the ground and ready to be eaten. I think the dry weather caused the foliage to collapse early before they had chance to produce any flowers. Although this year will not be a bumper crop year, we still have our own potatoes to eat at a time when they are expensive to buy in the supermarkets.

Someone who likes growing their own food can usually find a reason why it is a good idea to continue doing so next year.

I have to thank my wonderful husband for all the time and effort he put into helping me get the allotment 'in order'. As on my own it had been impossible to lay paths and clear some of the deep rooted brambles that we had on the plot.

Eventually with his help, we got to the stage where it had paths and looked like a real allotment. Together we created a place that was a timeless place, an escape from the modern world.

Thank you, for all your time and hard work and also for sharing my enthusiasm for digging up the first new potatoes of the year.
