Growing Your Own Fruit and Vegetables

We grow our own fruit and vegetables for our meals for as much of the year as we can. Without a greenhouse we have to buy shop food in the winter months but in the spring, summer and autumn we often have enough to share with family and friends.

Read about growing your fruit and vegetables here on my growing your own food pages.

Allotment Problems, Pigeons Pecking the tops off young Pea Plants.

When you first have an allotment plot to look after some lessons you learn quickly from your early mistakes. Something that falls into that category is when you plant peas you need to protect the emerging pea shoots from the pigeons. If you do not protect them in some way you will soon discover that in a short time they can ruin all your seedlings as they love pecking at the newly grown pea seedlings.  Only made the mistake of not covering them once, this weeks plantings are covered with net cloche tunnels.
