Growing Your Own Fruit and Vegetables

We grow our own fruit and vegetables for our meals for as much of the year as we can. Without a greenhouse we have to buy shop food in the winter months but in the spring, summer and autumn we often have enough to share with family and friends.

Recipes Ideas for home grown fruit...

Some years when you grow your own you will get a glut of one type of fruit. Too much fruit to eat even if you are generous and give some away leaves you with two options -

  • Freeze it if you have the time and the space in the freezer. It will be a joy to eating your fruit in winter months. Frozen fruit can be used in recipes such as compote.

  • Cook the fruit up into jams or compotes. A compote is quicker and easier to make than jam.
Here is a link to a compote recipe -An easy recipe for fruit compote.

If you are tired of eating strawberries in the usual way you might like to try this recipe  for Eton Mess.
Simple recipe to make Eton Mess.

Eton Mess is a no cook dessert unless you want to make your own meringues.

I am too busy with the fruit and vegetables, watering and weeding the fruit and vegetable plot to make them which is why most of my recipes are quick and simple ones. Better qualify that they are still real food, mostly healthy and cooked from good ingredients. The Eton Mess Dessert recipe is a bit naughty made with cream and meringues but you would not eat it every day it is what I would call a Treat Eat.
