- You can either grow the runner on in situ by pegging them down into the soil, hold them by pinning the runner down with a piece of wire bent into a hairpin/horse-shoe shape. Once the new plant has established roots you can move it to its new position in the garden.
- The other method used to propagate strawberry plants is to pot up the new 'runner' plant in plant compost. Snip of the connecting runner once the plant is rooted.
You can order strawberry plants now - if you need new plants for planting in the autumn.
This is also the time to cut back the summer fruiting raspberries - removing the old canes and leaving the new which may need tying inot to the wires you have to support them.
This does not apply to autumn fruiting raspberries as they are getting ready to produce their autumn fruits.
