Growing Your Own Fruit and Vegetables

We grow our own fruit and vegetables for our meals for as much of the year as we can. Without a greenhouse we have to buy shop food in the winter months but in the spring, summer and autumn we often have enough to share with family and friends.

Read about growing your fruit and vegetables here on my growing your own food pages.

Clearing weeds, cutting back autumn raspberry canes getting the plot ready for next year

When the weather is good time is well spent clearing and tidying up the plot to save time later. The better I clean the plot up now, the more time I will save time next year when it is time to start preparing the ground for the next seasons planting.

The green manure cops are doing well and keeping the weeds in check, in fact it is nice to see the lupins have managed
to flower at this time of year. Some of the marigolds that I use for companion plants are getting a bit 'bold' taking over more of the plot than I intended, so some of them are being pulled out too. This does not mean that I will have no marigolds next year as they sow and set their seeds profusely as do the nasturtiums that are used for the same purpose.
