I use old egg boxes to stand my seed potatoes in while they chit. If I do not have enough egg boxes I stand them upright in a seed tray side by side in rows. Then I stand them in a cool light airy place that has to be frost free. Some people put the potatoes to chit in a cool unheated conservatory, I use a frost proof garage or you can use a shed if it has the right conditions i.e. light and frost free.
The sprouts that form on the seed potatoes should be sturdy and not white and spindly. Some people think this pre-planting method of sprouting will help the potatoes you are going to grow off to a good start. I think it is worth doing this, as I like to buy the potatoes early anyway as later on the shops sell out of the most popular varieties.

Growing Your Own Fruit and Vegetables
We grow our own fruit and vegetables for our meals for as much of the year as we can. Without a greenhouse we have to buy shop food in the winter months but in the spring, summer and autumn we often have enough to share with family and friends.
