Growing Your Own Fruit and Vegetables

We grow our own fruit and vegetables for our meals for as much of the year as we can. Without a greenhouse we have to buy shop food in the winter months but in the spring, summer and autumn we often have enough to share with family and friends.

Read about growing your fruit and vegetables here on my growing your own food pages.

Starting to Plant Onion Sets, shallots are next on list.

Growing Onions from Onion Sets.

Today was a good day for working on the vegetable plot so I took the opportunity to begin planting the onion sets. There are still more to be planted and then the shallots will need to be planted too.

Shallots and Onion Sets. Shallots need planting in different ways, onions have the tops peaking out while shallots get covered up. When they grow they are different in another way too, shallots will split, each little shallot bulb will form more than one a new group of shallots. While onion sets are planted as mini onions and just 'grow up' to be full sized onions in time when planted.
