Growing Your Own Fruit and Vegetables

We grow our own fruit and vegetables for our meals for as much of the year as we can. Without a greenhouse we have to buy shop food in the winter months but in the spring, summer and autumn we often have enough to share with family and friends.

Read about growing your fruit and vegetables here on my growing your own food pages.

Early February on the Allotment, the Vegetable Plot.

Now is a good time to tidy the plot ready for the planting time.

  • If the soil is wet and water logged try to keep to the paths or stand on wide wooden planks to work.
        Why?
  • Soil structure is important and you do not want to compact it down.
  • You can use a long handled hoe, rake to similar method to deal with any emerging weeds.
  • If you have to choose where to work first tidy the bit that will be the place you sow or plant your earliest vegetables.
  • Add your home made compost to any areas that you know will need it.
